Benefits of Membership of AET

The Association for European Transport (AET) aims to provide a forum for transport professionals  and academics across Europe and worldwide to meet and exchange ideas and information as well as to discuss policy issues. Membership of AET provides a range of benefits.

AET Membership

The main objective of AET is to provide a forum in which professionals working in the transport sector in different European countries can meet to exchange ideas and information. At present this is done mainly through the European Transport Conference, one of the largest events of its kind in Europe, but in future there will be a membership database which will help members to establish contacts with colleagues in other countries.

Conference Discounts

Individual members automatically receive a 10% discount on European Transport Conference fees, and organisation members a 15% discount.

Programme Committees

All AET members are eligible for appointment to the Programme Committees. This is a good opportunity to make contacts and find out more about transport throughout Europe. Membership of Programme Committees is also a way to encourage younger members of staff to get involved in the wider profession and it serves as a useful personal development opportunity.

Web Site

AET intends to use the private part of its web site, accessible via a password, to help members reach out to members in other countries. We are currently asking members for their views about what should be posted on the web site; ideas under discussion include a membership database, a "where to go" address book, links to other transport web sites, details of new publications, news about research and consultancy projects, a listing of forthcoming events, and a helpline for people seeking information or research partners.

Research Dissemination

Many research and consultancy contracts now require dissemination of the results. AET will help you to meet these requirements through its Conference proceedings, which will be published. Papers of high quality can be published as selected paper in a peer reviewed online Elsevier publication. There is also the opportunity for groups to meet during the ETC and to present interim or final results to the conference or within a closed environment.

Young Professionals

AET is committed to the training and development of the next generation of transport professionals, and provides a friendly and informal atmosphere in which they can develop their presentation and communication skills. Young Professionals are entitled to a 50% reduction on membership fees. The European Transport Conference provides opportunities for Young Professionals to meet socially and develop networking opportunities. The Association has established the Young Researchers' and Practitioners' Forum which produces a programme for ETC and provides an environment whereby young people can present their work to their peers.
