Mission Statement:

Transport Modelling has long been a mainstay of the programme of the European Transport Conference. We aim to showcase technical innovation in transport modelling as well as examples of best practice across the industry. Transport modelling and forecasting and related analytical approaches are central to decision making across Europe on key infrastructure and policy matters.

ETC 2025 - LPT Call for Papers

We invite abstracts that align with the following conference themes, as well as other topics that contribute to the advancement of public transport.

Understanding the demand for local travel

  • How much do we know about users and non-users of Local Public Transport - and how much do they know about us?
  • The importantance of enhancing passenger accessibility and inclusivity
  • The impact and effectiveness of digital ticketing, payment systems, and inter/multimodal integration (e.g. access/egress modes)
  • Developing effective policies and incentives to promote modal shift, and community engagement
  • Understanding and responding to post-pandemic shifts in travel behaviour

Decarbonising Public Transport

  • Transitioning to electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles
  • Policies and funding models (e.g. public-private partnerships) for decarbonisation
  • Integration of renewable energy into transport infrastructure
  • Measuring and monitoring carbon reduction in transport policies and systems

Comparative Analysis of Transport Modes and Evaluation

  •  Comparison of Bus Rapid Transit, Light Rail (trams, cable systems, tube/metro networks), Very Light Rail, and Tram-train systems in terms of infrastructure requirements, vehicle costs, operational and maintenance considerations, economic appraisal and societal benefits
  • Explore critical success factors, understand how an intervention has been implemented, and what effects it has had
  • Lessons learned: identify what can be improved and provide the overall impact and outcome, as well as the cost-effectiveness of interventions

Innovations in Public Transport Planning and Operations

  • Resilience to climate change and unexpected disruptions
  • Innovations in rural and urban transport systems (e.g. Demand Responsive Transport, feeder of other public transport services)

Important notice:
Each year we receive more abstracts than can be accommodated in the programme. If your abstract is selected, please be aware that others have been rejected, that the ETC organisation has invested time in devising an attractive and coherent programme and that delegates use this programme to decide to come to the conference.

Before submitting your abstract, please make sure at least one of the authors can attend the conference to present the paper or poster, that finances are available for conference fee, travel and accommodation costs and that you have/will obtain the approval needed (from management or client) to present the work in public at the time of the conference. If your paper is accepted, you will be required to book and pay for the conference by the end of June.

We do understand that sometimes circumstances can force authors to withdraw. If so, you would help us by informing us as soon as possible. Last minute withdrawals or no-shows negatively affect the conference experience of your fellow transport professionals.
