As we approach the end of another year, I would like to extend my best wishes for the festive season to all members and friends of the Association. 2024 was another busy year for us. The European Transport Conference (ETC) took place in Belgium for the first time, at the University of Antwerp who were brilliant hosts, supported by Visit Flanders.

We had over 500 delegates from 33 countries over the three-day event. We also ran a full programme of highly successful and well-attended monthly Transport and Mobility Forum (TMF) webinars again, covering a wide range of topics.

On organisational matters, our Board is up to full strength again with the appointment of Dr. James Fox as Treasurer and the Council has a new chair with Dr. Jeff Howard, both confirmed at the General Assembly in September in Antwerp.

Looking forward to next year, ETC 2025 is already in the planning stages. We will be in Antwerp for a second and final year before we move to a new location in 2026. The dates are 17th to 19th September 2025, and the abstract submission deadline is 7th February 2025. I hope to see as many of you as possible at the conference.

The TMF, now in its 5th season, has a full programme of seminars again, starting 2025 on the 9th January with a New Year debate on the subject of “Modernising Transport Governance”. And, after Vienna in 2023 and Berlin in 2024, the TMF is planning a third hybrid event in Porto on Thursday 6th March, coinciding with an in-person Council meeting and a gathering of our Country Ambassadors. Details of the upcoming webinars are posted on the TMF Webpage of the AET website.

I would like to thank all our members and friends for their continued support and wish you all a peaceful holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year.
