European Transport Conference 2022

Milan, Politechnico di Milano, Bovisa Campus

ETC 2022 was after two online conferences again an in-person event. With around 600 delegates the conference was well attended. We were delighted to meet old friends, and make new connections with transport professionals. 

ETC 2022 celebrated the 50th ETC, and to highlight this special occasion there was a special retrospective session looking back at 50 years of ETC with Andy Costain, Sally Scarlett and others. Also at ETC50 AET introduced AET inaugural awards. The first awards to be handed out were:

• Honorary Fellowship: Sally Scarlett (third from left)
• Fellowship: Broos Baanders (second from left)
• Excellency Award: Jeff Howard (awarded accepted online, right)

The following plenaries were presented at the ETC:

• Opening Plenary
• Arianna Censi – City Councillor for Mobility of Milan
• Rolf Diemer – Head of the Economic Analysis Unit European Commission DG MOVE
• Thursday Plenary: Looking at the next future: challenges for researchers and practitioners in transport
• Ennio Cascetta – Professor of Transportation, Universitas Mercatorum, IT
• Tae Hoon Oum – Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, CA and President, World Conference on Transport Research Society

Social Events & Technical Visits

Next to the programme with presentations and sessions there were social activities and Technical visits at the conference. There were excursions to the Messina Depot, the Metro line 1 Control Room ant Monte Rosa and a visit to the Politecnico di Milano Driving Simulator.

• Scooter Tour organised by Tier
• ETC Running Club

The conference survey revealed a high satisfaction of the attendees of the 2022 conference which is a stimulus for AET to organise a great event again next year!
