We are delighted to announce that AET Association for European Transport and ECTRI – European Conference of Transport Research Institutes – have recently renewed their Memorandum of Understanding for a further three years.

ECTRI is an international non-profit association of national transport research institutes and universities that unites the forces of the foremost multimodal transport research centres across Europe to thereby promote the excellence of European transport research.

This MoU reflects AET’s commitment to building and strengthening partnerships and collaborations with friendly and like-minded organisations such as ECTRI who are committed to progressing transport policy practice and research through exchange of ideas and knowledge. The MoU reflects both organisations’ commitment to each other to strengthen cooperation and collaboration across a range of areas of common and mutual interest.

Both AET and ECTRI consider that the networking and the exchange of ideas, information and opportunities in transport and transport-related issues should be better coordinated and more integrated in Europe.

In practice this means:

  • Mutual promotion of activities and events of both organisations including the European Transport Conference (ETC) and the Transport Research Arena (TRA) and AET’s Transport and Mobility Forum (TMF);
  • Promoting closer collaboration between AET Programme Committees and the ECTRI Thematic Groups; and
  • Continuing and strengthening our collaboration on the publication of high-quality transport research papers from ETC in the European Transport Research Review, created and supported by ECTRI.

Important upcoming events by AET and ECTRI include:

  • In April 2026, the AET Transport and Mobility Forum will host a joint webinar on the theme of “Urban Freight Logistics and Last Mile Innovations” with ECTRI’s Freight and Logistics Thematic Group.
  • From 18 to 21 May 2026, the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026 will take place in Budapest, Hungary, under the theme “Regeneration in transport” and is expected to gather more than 4000 participants, including researchers, policymakers, industry representatives from across Europe and beyond.

Keep an eye out for further activities and collaborations in the future.
