Europe’s largest biennial transport conference comes to the Hungarian capital, 18–21 May 2026

The Transport Research Arena (TRA) is a leading European transport conference and exhibition co-organised every two years by the European Commission together with a host country. After ten successful editions, the next event will take place from 18 to 21 May 2026. Meet fellow AET members in Budapest!

The Transport Research Arena (TRA) is Europe’s largest conference on transport research and innovation. Originally launched as a road transport conference, it has evolved into a pan-European, multimodal event co-organised by the European Commission and key stakeholders across the sector. TRA brings together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase cutting-edge developments and foster collaboration in addressing major mobility challenges. As a high-level forum for dialogue, it plays a key role in shaping the future of European transport by linking research, innovation and policy.

In 2026, TRA will take place in Budapest. The key theme of this edition, “Re-Generation in Transport,” highlights the need to renew and transform mobility systems in response to today’s major challenges. It reflects both the regeneration of transport—making it more sustainable, resilient and efficient—and the emergence of new generations of technologies, professionals and users shaping the future of mobility. The theme underscores the importance of innovation, digitalisation and collaboration in creating a forward-looking European transport system.

Building on the renewed Memorandum of Understanding with the European Conference of Transport Research Institutes (ECTRI)—a member of the consortium organising TRA 2026—AET encourages its members and all interested colleagues to attend the event from 18 to 21 May at HUNGEXPO, Budapest’s exhibition centre. This is a unique opportunity to discuss new developments, share innovative ideas and connect with peers from across Europe.
