The beginning of March is a particularly busy time for AET. While AET public activity is concentrated around the European Transport Conference, Transport & Mobility Forum and the AET Hackathon, much more goes on behind the scenes to run our organisation. One of these activities is the AET Council meeting, which was held on 6th March and hosted by the City of London Corporation in the UK.
While the Council meets several times a year, the March meeting is important for planning AET’s upcoming year. One of the Council’s responsibilities at this meeting is to set the membership fees and approve the annual Business Plan and Budget. These were both approved at the March Council meeting. This year, the Council made the decision to keep this year’s membership fees at the 2025/2026 rates. The March Council meeting also provides an opportunity for the Council to meet with Ambassadors and learn about their work and future plans, along with how the Council can support them.
This year, the Council invited the Board and Ambassadors to participate in a workshop on membership. This workshop focused on developing member benefits, retaining and growing our membership base, as well as how we communicate with current and potential members. As elected representatives of AET membership, the Council is focused on delivering benefits for our fellow members. In the past few years, several new AET initiatives have come from members of the Council: AET Transport & Mobility Forum (launched as Covid-19 Conversations), AET Hackathon, AET Awards, and the Moving with Pride LGBTQ+ social at ETC.
Finally, as a volunteer organisation, our members keep AET moving forward. In the coming months, we will place a call for candidates for this year’s Council election. If you are a member and interested in helping shape the future of AET, please consider running for Council.
