The annual hybrid event organized by TMF was held in Berlin

The AET Transport and Mobility Forum (TMF), already well-known for its series of webinars on various topics of interest, organised an event to discuss the role of charging infrastructure in the future of e-mobility in Europe. After a successful first occasion in the previous year, the hybrid setting format was applied again on the 14th March 2024, attached to the AET Council meeting the following day. The in-venue event was kindly hosted by DLR – German Aerospace Centre in Berlin and moderated by Saskia Seidel from DLR’s Institute of Transport Research.

To set the scene, Jonatan Gómez Vilchez (University of Cádiz) provided an overview of policy and market developments, and Nyree Grifeo (Enel X) summarised European strategies and the state of play of charging infrastructure as the key to the success of e-mobility. The specific case of Germany was presented by Moritz Bergfeld and Jens Hellekes (DLR), focusing on demand-oriented localisation of charging demand and energy system flexibility.

Sveinung Kvalø (Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association) talked about lessons learned and an outlook on future challenges, based on the leading example of Norway. Attendees of the event in Berlin participated in an interactive workshop organised by DLR’s researchers to discuss the optimal localisation of charging points in an urban context.

In this session, participants could not only gather evidence that e-mobility is integral and crucial to Europe’s vision of a sustainable future, addressing environmental, economic and regulatory challenges, but they could also learn that the success of this transition heavily relies on the development of a robust, accessible and reliable charging infrastructure.

This infrastructure is not just a support system for EVs but a critical component that influences consumer adoption, convenience and the overall viability of e-mobility in Europe.
