Over the last decade, there has been an explosion of data availability. Most of these new datasets are not bespoke surveys collected for a specific purpose and they require new ways of harvesting, analysing and interpreting the data.
For the last few years, Jacobs Consultancy has been sponsoring a prize at the European Transport Conference (ETC), awarded for the most innovative use of data, which seeks to encourage and reward imaginative and creative ways of doing this.
The most recent winner was Katherine Cai Xuefen from the Singapore Land Transport Authority with her paper that was presented at ETC 2023 in Milan:
“An integrated framework of social media opinion mining and category system to analyse public opinion towards transportation technology and service”.
Kathryn re-presented her paper at the April session of the Transport and Mobility Forum (TMF) to make it accessible to a wider audience. After Katherine’s presentation, Federico Messa from Transform Transport in Italy gave a response to add his reflections on the paper and start off a lively question and answer session which was moderated by Hermann Maier.
